Mixing Linda Davis’ inaugural three-track solo endeavor was all about capturing the intimate and emotional essence she wanted to convey. Hailing from Santa Monica, California, Linda’s project—produced by Matt Cady and mixed and mastered at Dreamcatcher Studio—presents a captivating blend of ambient, soulful melodies with synths reminiscent of the Stranger Things soundtrack.
For Linda, it was crucial that the mix feel deeply personal, allowing listeners to connect emotionally with her music, even if she’s still discovering her direction.
As the mix engineer, my focus was on creating an atmospheric, “wet” production style that complements her intimate vocals. Lots of reverb and echo were key to giving her sound the emotional depth she wanted, wrapping the listener in a warm, soulful space without overwhelming her vocal delivery. Linda’s voice has a delicate quality, and unlike more forceful styles, she wanted to avoid turning her music into a “battle cry”—instead opting for something more introspective and relatable.
By carefully balancing her vocals with the ambient instrumentation, we created a project that feels expansive yet personal, showcasing her vulnerability while maintaining a lush, atmospheric sound.
